Championship club, Blackburn Rovers are understood to have won the race to sign Crewe Alexandra captain Harry Pickering.
The deal is worth up to £750,000 including add-ons.
As part of the deal between the two clubs, Pickering will return on loan to Gresty Road for the remainder of the season.
Kirk on the move?
Crewe Alex fans will also be waiting to see the outcome of transfer speculation regarding Charlie Kirk.
This morning Sky Sports have claimed that fellow League 1 side Charlton Athletic have bid £500,000 for the academy graduate.
Speaking to the club website last week, before news of the Charlton bid for Kirk was announced, Crewe Alexandra Assistant Manager, Kenny Lunt said:
I am sure there will be interest in our players because we know they are good players. I wouldn’t be surprised if clubs have looked at our players over the last 18 months because we have been successful as a group.
It shows that we are doing something right as a club and our business model has always been to develop young players and sell them on when the time is right.
Kirk has chipped in with 6 goals and 5 assists in all competitions so far this season. He was also named in the PFA League Two Team of the Season for 2019/2020
Should any deal for Kirk go through he would be the third player out of Gresty Road during the January transfer window after Perry Ng signed for Cardiff City.
