Four first-half goals saw Crewe romp home to victory in the New Years Day fixture at Gresy road.
Goals from Callum Ainley, Chuma Anene and a brace from Daniel Powell sealed a comfortable win in the opening game of 2020.
With only 34 minutes played Crewe had all but guaranteed their 13th win of the campaign, Powell’s brace making it five goals in the last four games for the in form winger.
Crewe manager Dave Artell speaking to the press after the game described the first half as “Worth the admission fee on its own”
Artless talking about the four first half goals said:
David Artell Crewe Alexandra manager
We scored some great goals. Chuma’s finish was terrific. Daniel Powell has scored two great finishes and Callum’s header was terrific. He showed real bravery but they don’t tend to hurt when they go in
The second half couldn’t match the quality of the first 45 minutes and an improved performance from the visitors saw them stem the tide, grabbing an early goal. It turned out to be nothing more than a consolation in the end and an emphatic win for The Railwaymen was never in doubt.
Crewe’s next fixture sees the visit of Championship strugglers Barnsley in the Emirates FA Cup this coming Saturday, kick off 2pm
