Cheshire East Council has faced a backlash this evening in relation to a poorly worded social media post reminding people to pay their Council Tax.
The post comes at a time of great uncertainty for many who have found themselves unable to work as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak in the UK.
Residents on Twitter reacted angrily to the announcement.
The post was one of several over the past 24 hours calling on residents to maintain “Regular payments”.
You put our council tax up by a lot this year, and a lot of people aren’t getting paid much due to having to stay at home. A lot of your services have now shut so surely you could reduce the council tax just for a couple of months.— Molly (@Molly40716782) March 26, 2020
While the intention of the post was to inform residents of ways to get help if they are struggling in the current climate the wording and tone of the post caused resentment among the residents.
For residents who are seeking help with Council Tax payments, the council has advice for you here.
